Welcome to the Aberdeen Camera Club

Welcome to the Aberdeen Camera Club, the oldest photographic club in Aberdeen. Founded in 1898 as the Aberdeen Photographic Society, in 1962 it changed its name to what it is now, the Aberdeen Camera Club.

The Club has many artefacts and records dating back to those early days and is proud of its legacy. Our vision has always been to create a club where everyone feels welcome irrespective of ability and at the same time to foster progress and improvement in photographic technique where the highest standards can be achieved.

From those early pioneering days to the present our members have always shared the same passion and enthusiasm for photography. Our mission is to provide every member with the opportunity for practical and creative growth, to provide coaching and constructive feedback, to offer a platform for sharing your enthusiasm for photography and creating a sense of achievement and challenge within a social environment. We believe the Club offers something for everyone.

Where do we meet?
Most of our meetings are currently held virtually as Zoom sessions. We hope to have access to physical premises in time for our open evenings. In either case, contact us for up to date details. Our meetings start at 7:30pm and are mostly held on Tuesdays. Have a look at our events programme for information.

How much does it cost?
Our membership fee is £15 per quarter year (contact us for details).
Education within the Club

We are fortunate to have a core of members who have been involved in amateur photography for decades. These members range from professionals to amateur photographers of high standing, who have achieved awards and merits at local and national competitions and exhibitions.

Our skill sets include studio portrait photography, landscape and travel, wildlife and nature, black and white, colour, prints and audio visual. We are all learning continuously from photographic competitions and from each other. Examples of the education we provide include,
  • Regular feedback and friendly critique on images provided to the club, in addition to the opportunity to provide feedback and friendly critique to everyone else
  • Learning opportunities on themes selected by the club and presented by the members such as wildlife photography
  • Feedback from monthly competitions judged by external judges
  • Mentoring on camera skills or other techniques by our experienced members
  • Field trips to share and explore photographic techniques, subject matter and creativity in a practical setting
  • External speakers to share their photographic skills and techniques
  • Opportunities to participate in local and national competitions
  • Review and comment on exhibition and national competition shortlists
  • Sharing techniques in post processing and printing
  • Sharing techniques, knowledge and experience of cameras, lenses and processing software
  • Provide opportunities and contacts to obtain more formal qualifications and acknowledgement in photography (eg. Royal Photographic Society, Photographic Alliance of Great Britain, British Photographic Exhibitions)

Whether you are just starting out on your photographic journey or whether you are already accomplished we believe we offer something for everyone. Our aim is first of all to enjoy what we are doing, to encourage everyone to get out and about with their cameras, for each of us to strive for improvement and to provide support for all.
